Wedding videographers: Interview to Visionalternativa
As I explained in my welcome post, in this bereziblog I want to dedicate a space for the bridal market professionals. In this section, you will find berezifriends I feel identified with by their style, their way of working and their vision about this lovely world of weddings. Through interviews and coffees with them, I want to bring their work closer to you and show you how those professionals can help your wedding is reminded forever.
I am so happy to start with Iñigo Santamaría, from Visiónalternativa, he gives the bride and the groom one of the most important souvenirs of their day, the wedding film. As this wedding videographer explains, its work goes further, it has a sentimental component that makes possible to remember the wedding forever, to live it again.
I wanted to take a different approach to wedding videos, I wanted to show an alternative view.
Here you have the interview to Iñigo, from Getxo and with some French influence, father of two daughters, nahia and Irati, feeelings observer and weddings videographer:
- In which moment you decided to launch for videography?
I studied photography in France, I was two years working in a lab in Bordeaux and after that period, I decided to come back to Getxo. When my first daughter was born, I decided to buy my first video camera and then my wish started. One day a friend of my sister asked me to record her wedding day and in that wedding, I met two young photographers, Óscar and Víctor, who were about to inaugurate a photo studio called Click, in Leioa, and so were they who really ended for support me to give the professional launch. From that instant on, I decided to leave the job I had in that moment and bought a professional video camera to dedicate fully myself to weddings videography.
- Where does the name “Visiónalternativa” come from?
One day I asked my friends to lend me their wedding videos to analyze them, it turned out that they were all typical video over an hour in which everything is recorded, regardless of whether the moment was relevant or not. Then I thought that I wanted to take a different approach to wedding videos, I wanted to show an alternative view.
- Why the world of weddings?
As I told you before, it was a friend of my sister’s the first bride who asked me to record her wedding day and there I could see how I enjoyed capturing those special moments. For me, I’m a little shy, to be recording in the background, to witness those moments from that perspective, it is a gift.
I always explain to the couple I'd like they remembered their wedding by emotions, that their wedding video was something sentimental; because, on that day, especially feelings, are released.
- What do you want to transmit with your work?
I make close, natural and touching videos. I always explain to the couple I’d like they remembered their wedding by emotions, that their wedding video was something sentimental; because, on that day, especially feelings, are released.
- Which are your sources of inspiration?
I come from a family of artists, my father is a cabinetmaker but with strong pictorial influence, my brother is an architect and myself, I wanted to be a cartoonist. I love photography, documentaries and I could spend hours watching music videos, I like the union between image, melody and history; so perhaps it is not a coincidence that I love the wedding videography and inadvertently, since childhood, everything visual called my attention.
- Which is your favorite moment in a wedding?
I do not think there is a particular key moment, I think what makes different a special moment is the circumstances, when all the excitement, the way to pass …is put together, you do not know why, but you feel that “this is the time “. I define it as a harmony that blends music, excitement and moment.
Nothing is predetermined; I have to expect the unexpected. I am an observer of what happens; they are not scenes for me, but feelings.
- What kind of preparation you do before a wedding?
I like to be with the couple and meet them personally; I think it is essential to connect with them. It also helps me a lot to know more about their history and life. I usually meet them twice before the wedding day, the day that we meet each other and a few days before the wedding, as I like to visit the place of the ceremony and the catering.
- What is your way of working during the wedding day?
Nothing is predetermined; I have to expect the unexpected. I do not like to force or induce any time. I always say that I am an observer of what happens; they are not scenes for me, but feelings.
- How does the wedding planner work affect to you at a wedding?
For me, when there is wedding planner in the wedding day, it makes everything have more pleasure, more control and helps us a lot to those who are dedicated to capturing the most important moments, as the weddings shines more aesthetically and the serenity of having a person who always knows what, how and when, is very valued. My experience with wedding planners has always been positive.
- Do you choose the videos music?
Yes, I choose it. Sometimes it takes me longer and sometimes less time, the images have to marry the music as the wedding video is a gear, everything must fit perfectly.
- What advice would you give to the couple who are hesitant to book videographer?
The wedding video has more channels of communication comparing to photography. The snapshot is a fragment, a frozen moment of the wedding day, the video goes further. It is the moving image with the right music, the film of the big day, where there is a high emotional and sentimental component.
- How do you see yourself in 10 years?
Oh, how difficult! I would like to feel more relaxed with myself, my mind able to know what to do at all times, be guided by the thrill, by what happens on a day to day. I would love to be free in creativity and that my couples trusted blindly on my way to see and do. I would like to be an author and that the couple did not hire only a product, but a humble work of author film, mine; that would be my dream.
The wedding video goes further, it is the moving image with the right music, the film of the big day, where there is a high emotional and sentimental component.
To look, to listen and to thrill are the three premises of Iñigo, but so you can feel better what he means, I leave you one of his videos, entitled “A mi lado” captured in Tuscany Italian and awarded with the 2nd position in the category “Best wedding video shot outside Spain 2015” in the second National Film Festival Recvolution organized by Videógrafos de Bodas.
Who does not dream of having a wedding video like this?
